Bar Central
A compact bar in Frankfurt's Sachsenhausen-adjacent city centre, drawing a predominantly male crowd of regulars and the occasional visitor passing through.
Frankfurt's gay scene is small, settled, and refuses to perform. Most of it sits on and around Alte Gasse, the so-called Bermuda Triangle, where a handful of bars, a leather club or two, and a long-running sauna have held their ground for decades within walking distance of the banking towers. The energy is cruisier than it is fashionable, and the city's weekday population of finance suits and consultants gives way at weekends to something looser and more local. Christopher Street Day, held each July, briefly turns the centre into a parade route. Otherwise, this is a working city that quietly takes care of its own.
Gay Places is building a better guide to gay life around the world, bringing together venues, events, and local context to make it easier to find, understand, and step into.
