Valencia offers a softer Mediterranean version of Spanish gay life, neither as compact as Madrid's Chueca nor as polished as Barcelona's Eixample. The scene gathers loosely around the old town, particularly the streets running through Barrio del Carmen, where bars and the city's main gay club sit among art spaces and late-opening tapas terraces. In summer the centre of gravity drifts toward the coast, with informal gay crowds at Malvarrosa and the dunes near El Saler. Valencia Pride takes place in June, smaller than the capital's but warmly local in feel.
