Roses

A small, legendary Kreuzberg queer bar with a deliberately camp interior of pink plush, kitsch religious iconography, and house music. It is one of the clearest alternatives to Schöneberg for travellers who want Berlin’s grittier, more crossover queer nightlife.

Roses occupies a single narrow room on Oranienstraße, small enough that the bar itself takes up a significant portion of the floor space, leaving little room for anything other than standing close to strangers. It has operated at this address since the 1980s, making it one of the older surviving queer bars in Kreuzberg, which gives it a different kind of weight than the newer club-bars that have opened in the area since reunification.
