Terms of use

Last updated 3 November 2026

Welcome to Gay Places. These terms set out the ground rules for using the site and for contributing to it. By using Gay Places you agree to them. We have kept them as short and plain as we can.

About the site

Gay Places is a guide to gay bars, clubs and other queer spaces, run by Andrew Denty. It is free to use. We work hard to keep the information accurate, but venues change their hours, move and close, and we cannot check every detail every day. Please confirm with a venue before you make a special journey.

Your account

  • You need to be 18 or over to create an account.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
  • You can ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing hello@gayplaces.co.

Contributing

We love contributions: new places, corrections, reviews and photos. When you contribute, you agree that:

  • what you send us is your own work, or you have permission to share it;
  • it is accurate, as far as you know;
  • we may publish it on Gay Places, edit it for clarity, length or house style, and keep it after you leave;
  • it will appear without your name, and we will never show your email address.

Everything you contribute is checked by a person before it appears. We may decline or remove any contribution. We will try to be fair, but the final decision is ours.

What not to post

Please do not post anything that:

  • is hateful, harassing or threatening;
  • reveals someone's sexuality, identity, HIV status or private details without their consent;
  • shows identifiable people without their permission;
  • is spam, advertising or unrelated to the venue;
  • is illegal, or that you do not have the right to share.

We will remove content like this, and we may close the account that posted it.

Claiming a venue

If you claim a venue, you confirm that you own it, work for it or are otherwise authorised to speak for it. We may ask you to show that before we act on the claim.

Our content

The text, photographs, design and code of Gay Places belong to us or to the people who contributed them. You are welcome to link to any page, share a page on social media, or quote a short extract with a link back. Please ask before copying venue descriptions or photos, collecting the site's content automatically, or republishing it in bulk.

Other websites and venues

We link to venues' own websites, social media and maps. We do not control those sites, and we are not responsible for what they say or do. We are also not responsible for anything that happens at a venue. Laws and attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people vary from place to place, so please take care, particularly when travelling.

Our responsibility to you

Gay Places is provided as it is, free of charge. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss or disappointment that comes from relying on the site, from a venue being different from how we described it, or from the site being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits any rights that the law gives you.

Changes

We may change the site, or stop running parts of it, at any time. We may also update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site after that, you accept the new terms.
