Reykjavik has so thoroughly absorbed its gay population that there is barely a separate scene to speak of. Iceland was an early adopter of marriage equality and once had an openly lesbian prime minister, and the result is a capital where most bars are simply mixed by default. Kiki Queer Bar, on Laugavegur, remains the obvious anchor when something more pointed is wanted. The real moment arrives in August, when Hinsegin dagar draws a parade and crowd astonishingly large for a city of this size. The rest of the year, gay Reykjavik is quietly woven into the whole.
